03 / Encar API

What the Encar API is

Encar.com is South Korea's largest used-car marketplace and publishes no public API. This is the independent REST service that reads that market live and hands it back as clean JSON: search it, pull one vehicle in full, or count what matches.

Why teams move off scraping

04 / Encar API

Enriched data, not a raw dump

  • Manufacturer, model group, model, badge and fuel type come back translated into English and German beside the Korean original — five fields you would otherwise be translating yourself.
  • Prices are converted to EUR server-side, output is resolved to PS and kW where the trim is known, and priceDrop carries the previous price with the date it fell.
  • On a single-vehicle lookup availability is checked at that moment, so a car that has gone answers 404 SOLD_OR_REMOVED instead of a stale 200.

Built to load fast

  • Filtering happens on our side: you ask for diesel Sorentos under €25,000 and that is what crosses the wire, not a catalogue you then sift.
  • Up to 500 listings per request, so a full catalogue sync is a handful of calls rather than thousands.
  • X-RateLimit-Remaining rides along on every response, so your job knows what it has left instead of discovering a 429 mid-import.

Solutions for everyone, at every scale

One developer evaluating on the free tier and an importer syncing thousands of cars a day call the same three endpoints. What changes is the daily allowance and how much of the work you want to do yourself.

  • Free forever for a single developer: 100 requests a day, resetting at midnight UTC, no card.
  • Pro and Enterprise when a public stock page depends on it — a higher daily allowance, or none at all.
  • Ready-made marketplace templates, done-for-you builds, a Telegram bot or automation work, priced per job.

Search parameters — GET /cars

Combine any of these on a single call. The answer carries total, page, count and results[], so you can paginate off total without a second request.

parameterwhat it does
manufacturerBrand, as Encar writes it: BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mercedes-Benz, Audi.
modelModel name, e.g. X5 (G05). Partial names match, and a generation name narrows further: model=The New Carnival returns that generation alone, not the whole nameplate.
qFree-text search across brand, model and badge. Aliases: keyword, search.
fueldiesel · gasoline · hybrid · electric · lpg.
transmissionautomatic · manual.
colorExterior colour.
seatsSeat count: 5, 7, 9. Several at once as seats=7,9. The two ends are ranges, not counts — 2 means two seats or fewer and 10 means ten or more, which is how the source files them. A car's own figure comes back as details.seats from /car.
yearFrom / yearToModel year bounds, as plain years: 2018, 2024.
mileageFrom / mileageToOdometer bounds in kilometres.
priceFrom / priceToPrice bounds in EUR — converted for you, not won.
sortpriceAsc or priceDesc. Left out, results come back newest first.
pagePage index, zero-based. Default 0.
countListings per page. Default 24, maximum 500.

What a listing looks like

The data comes from a Korean source, so four of these fields are read wrong by default. Each one fails silently — your page renders, it is simply incorrect.

fieldmeaning
IdEncar listing id. Pass it to /car to get the full vehicle.
Manufacturer / Model / BadgeKorean source values. Badge is partly Korean — prefer the de / en block below.
de / enThe same car translated: manufacturer, modelGroup, model, badge, fuelType. Render these.
PriceIn units of 10,000 KRW. EUR ≈ Price × 6.7, so 4339 is about €29,070 — not €4,339.
YearYYYYMM, not a year: 201902 is February 2019. FormYear holds the plain "2019".
MileageKilometres, as an integer.
FuelTypeKorean. The translated value is in de.fuelType / en.fuelType.
Photo / Photos[]Relative paths. Prefix them with the image host; with Photo, append 001.jpg.
priceDropPresent when the seller cut the price: previousPrice, droppedAt.
powerPs / powerKwEngine output, where the trim is known.
OfficeCityStateWhere the car stands, as a Korean region name.

Rate limits and errors

Every response carries X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset, so you can see a limit coming rather than discover it.

statusmeaning
200A normal answer. Check X-RateLimit-Remaining while you are here.
400A parameter could not be parsed — a non-numeric yearFrom, for instance.
401Missing or unknown key. Send it as the x-api-key header.
404 SOLD_OR_REMOVEDFrom /car: the vehicle is gone from Encar. Drop it on your side.
429Daily allowance spent. X-RateLimit-Remaining tells you before it happens.
503The Korean source did not answer in time. Retry once, then fall back.

07 / faq

Questions, answered

Does Encar have an official API?

No. Encar.com does not provide a public API, a developer portal or a self-serve partner programme. Encar API is an independent service that delivers the same listing data through a clean REST endpoint.

What is the Encar API?

A REST API that returns live Korean used car listings from Encar.com as JSON. Three endpoints, filters for brand, fuel, year, mileage and price, no scraping required.

How do I get Korean used car data programmatically?

Send a GET request to /cars with your filters and you get back paginated JSON. Authenticate by sending your key in the x-api-key header. A free key covers 100 requests a day and is issued instantly on this site.

What data does the Encar API return?

Each listing includes manufacturer, model, badge, model year, mileage, fuel type, transmission, colour, price, engine output, photo paths, the Korean region the car stands in, and German and English translations of the model and trim. Over 200,000 live listings are available.

Is the Encar API free?

There is a free tier: 3,000 requests a month, no card, no expiry. Pro is 49 EUR a month for 150,000 requests, Business is 199 EUR for 750,000, and Enterprise is 499 EUR a month with no request cap. The monthly figure is a daily ceiling spread evenly, so one runaway script cannot spend the month in an afternoon.

How do I search Korean used cars by brand, price or mileage?

Pass the filters as query parameters on /cars: manufacturer, model, fuel, transmission, colour, yearFrom and yearTo, mileageFrom and mileageTo, priceFrom and priceTo in EUR, and sort=priceAsc or priceDesc. Up to 500 listings come back per page.
